UCCS library |
Kids are on winter break, so nobody was at the library. I've never been in an university library this empty. There was so much territory available to me. I wanted to use ALL the group study rooms, all at the same time!
How amazing does this library lounge look?
The sign on the table says reserved for the women's basketball team, I suppose because NCAA sports pay the bills. |
I know right? It's like a ski chateau with a mountain view.

Because there were no undergraduates, I didn't have to blast music in my ear to stay sane, I didn't need to circle the library twice round like a dog (even though I did anyways) to find a decent spot, and I didn't need to suppress the urge to go up somebody and flip tables. It was great.
Been trying to find more songs to play and get gooder at. I listened to a YouTube playlist of repertoire solo pieces, to find songs I like. Repertoire, you know, the ones you need to practice and get really good at to become a professional? Well I listened for two hours, and only heard two pieces I liked - one of which I used in audition before... so, kinda disappointing when I'm trying to find new music to play.
I printed out sheet music for two pieces I found. The library allows printer use by guests for 10 cents a sheet, but I found a better method for free. There was a "Honor Room" for nerds and tryhards that was unlocked and contained a printer.
A sign on the doorknob said that the electronic pin number access wasn't working properly, so leave the door open. What a chump... I felt like giving that room a big wedgie. As if that wasn't asking to have its lunch money taken enough, there was also a chess table in the corner.
Well, anyway, the room had a Brother-brand printer that was off the grid. A USB cable was dangling from the printer, begging for a hole to insert into. I joined my laptop to the printer and produced about 7 pages of ear lubricant. Oh - and a funny little cartoon for the cute student librarian on duty.
I met the student when I came in, and made brief conversation at her. She was wearing a Peanuts sweater and being on duty at an empty library seemed really boring, so I put together this image and handed her the print-out.

I found a library with a drive-through at Pikes Peak. (This library does have one, Nick!) It has book deposit bins for returning borrowed material.
The opposite kind of drive-through would be amazing, but I don't think it'd be feasible unless we have a very socialist, controlling, propaganda state.
"Yes, I'd like to borrow Mao's Little Red Book please."
Sure thing comrade, would you like anything else?
"Well do you have anything else to read, then?"
No, but perhaps you'd like to borrow another copy for a friend... that is... unless you are a Capitalist traitor, are you? Comrade guards, seize this counter-revolutionary pig!
"No, no, I just wanted to see how many Mao's books I could distribute to my family. I'll take five more copies."
Ah, very well then. Comrades, false alarm. He is one of us. *Salutes*
There would be no return bins. Well if there were, nobody would dare use them. Unless of course, you want to admit that you are a counter-revolutionist! Are you?
Comrades, seize this hypocrite lecteur!
... aaaand the rest...

$8.60 Lunch buffet (after tax) at Ultimate Buffet had bbq ribs, ribs! for lunch price! I know, what a great deal! I thought they were going to charge me $14 for dinner cause I saw ribs! A Mexican guy was grilling racks and racks of them on the hibachi. Mind blown.
Finally a drive through library!
ReplyDeleteWow what a spectacular view. Pikes peak! I'm jealous.
