Travel notes

Road to Albany

Thursday evening. May 19th.
Albany, OR

Rainy afternoon in town. Got rained in at a buffet with Ulix.

"You will travel far and wide both for pleasure and business."

When you get wet, you get cold.

Rain, rain

Rain cleared up and I went to the library. Devices reached half charge. Library closed.

Rolled to the park. Slung a hammock. Ducks and stream nearby.

Periwinkle Park. Albany, OR.

Ducks are funny when they play fight. Squack, wabble wabble.

Slept until 8pm. Houses very close by, and neighbors called police.

Officers were nice gentlemen. Real polite and helpful. Asked about my trip and were interested.

One officer tipped me off to a nature park close by, on my way south. I camped there at night.

Crossing bridges
Water under the bridge

Plants grew too thick and impenetrable at the nature park to use hammock. I put down tarp. Chose a spot without too much wind, and where I felt safe.

Corner of one straight trail meeting another. Far away from the road and the dark woods to avoid getting surprised, can see from far away.

Cold at night. Head not covered enough. Sore throat x2 then x4 x8. Thought I'd be sick like last month.

Morning 5 am got up, re-bundled slept till 10 am. Sore throat reduced to x2. No sickness. But I feel it ready to creep in.

Don't really sleep at night. Too cold. Just lying there getting sick until day. Then sleep when it's warm.

Friday, May 20th
Albany, OR to Eugene, OR

Freeway Lakes County Park to Eugene, OR today.

Handlebar mount for action camera snapped off. No more videos after this, I guess. Ah well, it still takes pictures.

Long flat farmland road. Real boring. But no cars, scenic, and safe.

I rested along the road and read a physics textbook. Traveling and studying. I'm boss. Couldn't be happier with my lifestyle choices.

Lots of farm animals. Sheep. Goats. Cows. Horses.

I like how wild and rural animals look at ya when they see ya. In the city, people and animals pretend not to. Even birds and squirrels.

Eugene, OR.

Buffet.

my 'Pina Colada' creation

Carrying my red saddlebags into businesses. Every one asks if I'm walking, for some reason, when I say I'm going to San Diego. Then they are surprised when I say I'm biking. LOL.

Boring shopping tasks. Target: bike pump $20, memory gel seat cushion $15. My butt feels no different, meh. Sunscreen: $5.

Going to REI tomorrow to get $35 refunded for my $180 panniers that went on sale 25% off. Scraping together money.

"You will always have good luck in you.
Personal affairs."

Camped in city park after sunset. Two trees close together.

My lowest, steepest hammock hang. LOL. Butt millimeters off the ground.

A challenge to position my body and balance. Fetal position. Cocooned in Sherpa throw.

Cold 45F.

Slept two cycles. 4 hrs, 3 hrs. 11 pm to 5:30 am. Overwhelming success!

  1. Those are some funny fortune cookies. When I visited China the funniest thing was the propaganda translated to English that made no sense.

Here's one of my favorites found above a bathroom urinal. Translation please?
