On self worth

Accept that you are a person with desires and emotions like everyone else.

You may not be like everyone else, but that doesn't mean you are more or less special,  superior or inferior.

Let go of an idea that no one understands you. You can be understood and you can evidence it by understanding others.

When you relate to other people and empathize, you become aware you are not isolated and alienated. You put yourself in solitude when you devalue other people and their feelings.

Do not feed on other people's positive esteem of you. Do not be ashamed by overt or implied criticism. Have your own valuations and trust your own judgement.

You have capabilities and deficiencies as anyone else. Neither the extent of these abilities nor external outcomes like victories or defeats detract from or augment your inherent worth.

(The succeeding description of manner, goals, and actions must not be contingent on harming the people, cruelty to animals, or destruction of natural environment you inhabit.)

You have inherent worth to live life, in a manner that suits you. You have a right to pursue what matters to you. You have a right to choose actions that make you proud and lead to happiness. Nothing and no one has moral justification to take these away.

Petroglyph National Monument. Alburquerque, New Mexico.

Rinconada Canyon

Kilroy wuz here.

Some day, the crappy graffiti under bridges will become historical images too.

Seems like an unusually high concentration of petroglyphs. Maybe this was a school.
Maybe students practiced their designs on rocks before taking a risk on leather bags or what not.

Or maybe this ranch was a daycare. I think petroglyphs were made by young people with free time on their hands. Kids like to draw and their drawings suck. Adults have too much work to doodle on rocks.

Sophie's World: A Novel About the History of Philosophy (FSG Classics) Paperback – March 20, 2007
by Jostein Gaarder (Author), Paulette Moller (Translator)
ISBN 10: 9780374530716

[
Then along comes Plato. He is concerned with  both what is eternal and immutable in nature and what is eternal and  immutable as regards morals and society. To Plato, these two problems were  one and the same. He tried to grasp a “reality” that was eternal and immutable
]

{
I disagree with the supposition that reality has fixed rules. I believe that any self consistent set of rules is acceptable to reality. Physical constants don't have any innate reason to be the values they are, but the values they take are consistent with each other and the principles of motion they follow. That is sufficient reason they exist. I would need further evidence to accept that those values are necessary and unique. The universe could bifurcate into two or more allowable sets of physics under stressful states like before the Big Bang. Infinitely many set of constants and physics may exist that we don't experience because our physical bodies couldn't exist in that reality.
}

[
Plato also believed that the soul existed before it inhabited the body, (it  was lying on a shelf in the closet with all the cookie molds.) But as soon as  the soul wakes up in a human body, it has forgotten all the perfect ideas.
]

{
The concept of ideal forms existing in another universe is nonsensical. All possible forms would exist in this hypothetical universe, of things that have existed in our world and things that could exist too. There are infinitely many shapes we can create in our universe, just by creating an N-sided polygon as n goes to infinity, so that ideal form universe would be infinitely populated as well. To distinguish all infinitely possible forms would be effectively the same as distinguishing nothing. Distinguishing forms is matching a limited set of patterns to a larger set of data. So you can determine if a pattern manifested in the image. If every image trivially matches its own pattern, then there's no distinguishing value. A blank page holds the same usefulness of data as a page that is completely filled with ink. That ink filled page is the concept of a universe of all ideal forms.
}

[
You see the shadow of an animal. You think it  may be a horse, but you are not quite sure. So you turn around and see the  horse itself--which of course is infinitely more beautiful and sharper in outline  than the blurred “horse-shadow.” Plato believed similarly that all natural  phenomena are merely shadows of the eternal forms or ideas. But most  people are content with a life among shadows. They give no thought to what  is casting the shadows. They think shadows are all there are, never realizing  even that they are, in fact, shadows.
]

{
There's an arbitrariness to deciding what is Shadow and what is ideal mold. Is the shape of the horse nose an ideal? Is the imperfections in its shape actually minutia idealizations of their own? Where does the ideal devolve into imperfect shadow? Everything is an ideal form and nothing is. It's an imprecise romanticized idea that offers no practical value.

When I skim a philosophy book off a university library written by a professor, it seems often to devolve into splitting hairs on whether something is or isn't an imprecise romanticized idea whose concept is ill defined to begin with.
}

{
Why do I only find criticisms of philosophy to talk about, when I do enjoy thinking philosophically? I suppose its easier to find fault in what people have done, than to do a better job myself.

Maybe the tendency to contradict what I perceive to be wrong is a sneaky way of getting myself to divulge what I believe to be true.

The best way to get the right answer on the Internet is not to ask a question, it’s to post the wrong answer. - Cunningham's Law

Free Association Creative Writing Gibberish

Hello. There's an answer. Doorway. Laughing without crying. Children and mothers without pain. Only laughter. And silence. Over the mountain top. White peaks. Grey ebony. Eventually we fall. Rise above the current. Sad laughter. Feigned recuperation. Object surrender into the echo. Cold chamber. Small compensation. Abysmal fortitude. Resplendent enamor.

Without thinking, I answer the door. Who is there? The sound of my heart beating. I stare down the hallway in both directions. There is a note at my feet. "Hello. I love you." Who left this? On the back there is nothing. Drip drop. Driiiip. I left the faucet on. I should go back to sleep. Driiiip. That can wait for later. Drop. I fall. I surrender.

In the summer, sunlight hangs off tree leaves like a wet towel. I go against the motor running laps in its sleep like a young dog. Rum chum and chugalug. Days are often silent or perhaps I am mute. I carry too much change in a purse two sizes too small. I eat and deliver fish. Sometimes poached, sometimes smoked. Among the everglades there is movement, or so the papers say. I ask friendly and polite. Never an answer too short. Short on patience. Short on words. Some things like a response, others don't care for impertinence. Permanence is a virtue, they like to believe. However they can find it. Asking is knowing.

Tomorrow at this time, the tea cups will kettle. Black somber soot floating at the bottom. We will share a drink, a toast. To ravioli on rye and other resplendent things. Earrings make the man! Mermaids on bar stools.

In Bartook, some silly nincompoop handlers made off with four dozen or so eggs. They will hatch into prize beasts, of course. None the wiser will they be for it, however.

Sad pity. We came to the beginning when nearing the end. Smoke goes to the slow weasel. Again, we sit and wait. We read homologues aloud, stressing each syllable in stand-offish phrase. However they might press the reviews, no man has seen the show in its entirety. Seventy-five actors and not one has come forth. Simple in its elegance, really.

Back when I was teaching to orphans, I met a man who could whistle on one thumb. He wasn't much tall though. And I dare say he knew the workings of a trash compactor better than the governor himself! All in all, he was a terrible savage. A nasty brute!

Listen, if you ever get up the courage to go sky diving, ask for Winnie. She's the sugarplum with glasses thick as Sunday paper.

Unicode Symbol Reference

How to type symbols

[From https://www.fileformat.info/tip/microsoft/enter_unicode.htm

To type in Windows,

1. Press and hold down the Alt key.
2. Press the + (plus) key on the numeric keypad.
3. Type the hexidecimal unicode value.
4. Release the Alt key.
]

Note: Press the letter keys without holding shift, even though they are written as capital letters. You can type the numerical keys on the Numpad or on the row above the letters.

How to setup Windows for extended Unicode characters

[From https://superuser.com/posts/1024956/revisions

By default, the numeric keypad way of entering characters by code can only access the first 256 characters. (I believe these are defined by your system's code page for non-Unicode programs.) Codes bigger than 256 get wrapped around, so code 257 actually gets you character 1.

To enable the entry of all Unicode characters by code, create a string registry value in Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Input Method called EnableHexNumpad with the value of 1. Then you'll be able to enter any character by holding down the right Alt key, pressing the + button on the numeric keypad, entering the hex code (2, 7, 1, 3 in your case), and releasing the Alt key. You may need to log off and back on before this input type is enabled.

Note that the non-+ method of entering ASCII characters by code will continue to wrap around even after you enable this mode.
]

Step by step instructions:

1. Open Regedit. (Press Win+R. Type "regedit". Press enter.)
2. Select the current directory in the Regedit location bar and delete it. Copy and paste into it "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Input Method"
Press enter to change the directory.
3. Right click on the empty space in the right panel. Select "New" from the context menu.
Click on "String value".
Enter "EnableHexNumpad" into the name.
Double click the new entry to edit it.
Type "1" in the "Value data" field. Click OK.
4. Log out of Windows and log back in.

Zion Canyon, Utah

A small popular spot on the south side of Zion National Park.
The canyon has some nice attractions. It has rocks, rivers, and heights.
There's a lot of hype about Zion. I think it's because the photos look impressive to people who haven't been there, especially after artificial enhancement.

You may see people post pictures of Zion like this:

When in reality, it looks like this:

Reminder

Life isn't perfect, but it is beautiful.

One thing you want for me

Don't see in black and white.
Stay curious

Once I judge people as wrong,
my interest in understanding their feelings, reasons, and motives is gone.
I'm missing out on a wealth of experience that they have to offer,
and I'm limiting myself from engaging with them in meaningful way

If I want to correct someone by criticizing them,
I'm working against myself.
Empathize and help them meet their needs.
They might come around to solving their problem in a positive way.

One thing I should remember

You wouldn't irritate me unless it's important for me to understand
and you're doing it for my own good,
because you love me.

You're not a careless thinker.
You put a lot of effort into your ideas.
Even if it feels like we're having separate debates about different things,
when I widen my perspective I understand
you have something worth hearing.
