Live-Your-Life Mentor

Below is a journal entry dated 2/21/2015 9:02am about my idea for a programming product. I've put in bold just now the main features that appeal to me. This is the kind of work I have passion to learn and write in computer language.

  • create an "live-your-life mentor" software that keeps you informed about pursuits you have in life
    • pulls information from the Internet
    • based on your goals, things you like to do, things that you know already
let's say you want to learn differential equations. It will present to you books on it. extract the table of contents and search on each term.
so for a week, you learn separation of variables technique. while you are on that stage, the software will find different sources on that subject until you choose to mark that subject as learned.

next it will present three choices for where to branch of from there. you pick one and repeat.
after a stage (entire subject or at user specified point) is learned, you have the option to review as you go. This means the software will periodically present older material from the previous stage or subject in addition to new material on the current stage.

after finishing a subject. it is time to celebrate. the assistant can remind you of past accomplishments. Like "remember when you... the day and the thing you did. show the text you submitted, or the stage information"
it can recommend applied uses of the material. find current articles or news related to the topic.

but this can be for non-academic learning too.
  • cook
  • dance
  • exercise
  • travel
  • career certification/advancement
  • foreign language
  • money management
  • quit smoking
  • musical instrument
  • books to read
  • movies to watch
the idea is that it should be a general aide for any activity that requires practice, learning, and that you acquire expertise with the work you put into it.

often we get stuck and don't really advance, because without a teacher we don't know what is the next level to reach and what we're supposed to do next.

this is supposed to put all the things you set as goals at your fingertips. images and articles related to things you want to get better at.
instead of just news feeds in topics you like, it should have a smart engine that keeps track of what it is presenting to you and finds out what you need to learn next.

what you need to learn next isn't current events, but is stationary information that is old and many people have studied through a certain path.
so it is like a curriculum based Internet feed that updates not based on recent time, but on your progression through a curriculum.

the primary feature then, is that the software acts as a news feed based on user progression along a structured collection of topics.
