Depressive Creed

I can't stand 'depressed' people who won't work on themselves, whine about their problems, and think it's always something or someone else treating them unfairly. It's disrespectful to depressed people making a positive effort.

You complain and moan. You're not looking for help. People who've been through the same thing offer you advice and encouragement, but you don't listen. You just blame your problems on how *you've* been wronged, like nobody else has ever been mistreated so unfairly!

Everybody has problems. I bet anybody can think of a problem they've dealt with that's worse than what you're going through. Some are working to overcome very difficult times themselves. They make an effort to give you their support. But you don't consider anyone else.

You only think of how it's too hard for you. You don't want to overcome your problem, you expect someone else to take your problem away, because it is soooooo unfair to you. You're not wanting the world to be fair; you expect the world to be unfair in your favor!

You're not depressed. You haven't gotten there yet. It takes work to be depressed. It takes falling down. Attempt after attempt. Depression is loss of all hope, after all you tried your best but you can find no path to fulfillment.

True depressed people don't whine and moan. That's the first stage of infancy before depression. Those are prideful stings forming a barrier from making wholehearted effort.

The deep depressed beyond that. They have given their hearts and are empty. They are not crying for a handout - they know it's not something somebody else can give you, or do for you that fixes your life. They only ask for some hope in life.

This is the creed I believe depressed people ought to live by:

Show me the path to fulfillment that won't disappoint, and I will walk it myself.

Short examples:

Forum post from depression site:
It's Just So Darn Unfair

"I don't really want to deal with other people, and I don't want to be confined by others.

It's so unfair...that I seriously can't seem to find any vocation at the moment that will enable me to live on my own whims and desires."

What you describe is what EVERYBODY in the world goes through. So it would be fair if your job allowed you to live your whims and 99.9% of people in the world have to deal with real problems?

Conversation from depression chatroom:
- "You can make it through this."

"NO. It's TOO hard! I have no ENERGY left."

- "Bullshit."

"You're a PSYCHOPATH. HOW CAN YOU PEOPLE LET HIM SAY THIS TO ME? He doesn't care so he WANTS me to DIE."

Kid, look how much energy you have to defend your statements. You're still hostile and indignant at being wronged. Steer that energy to making a positive change! You are far from depleted.
