It's getting cold. I traveled fifty miles on three consecutive days.

Traffic on 16 East was busier than normal, because evacuees from the hurricane were returning to the coast. I haven't seen severe damage or any flooding in areas on my route. Some fallen trees.

Red Cross hijacked a YMCA for emergency shelter in Pooler, about 15 miles out. But it wasn't open when the hurricane hit, a local man tells me, just became available yesterday.

There were many medical vehicles and transport buses around but the helpers seemed disorganized, not trying very hard to give aid and there weren't many refugees there. I waited ten minutes at the entrance, but the men in a room behind the reception desk didn't look out once. A man showed me to the showers said he wasn't sure if it was the right door, because he got there an hour before I did.

I stole some snacks left on a chair in the chapel, walked out holding a few bottled waters, and slept in a park close by. God helps those who help themselves.
