Servo the EmotionBot

Matty: No, Servo. When I ask you I really mean it

A fictional screenplay about a prototype Robot created to experience Emotions for people who don't have them. And the orphan boy who rescues him and becomes his friend.

Servo learns "How are you?" 

 

Servo: "I was manufactured in a Hong Kong factory 18 months ago and operate by Lithium-Ion battery that has been recharged daily and received monthly maintenance."


Matty: "Uggh. Servo... 'How are you?' means 'what is your current condition?' it doesn't mean 'how are you able to exist?' "


Servo: "Fully operational."


Matty: "No, she doesn't mean to ask you that. It's just a greeting. C'mon let's go."


Lady: "Bye, nice to meet you Servo."


Servo salutes. He keeps looking at the lady as Matty drags him away.

In later events...

Servo: Hello, sir. What is the current condition of your face?


His face is beat up pretty bad. The guy gets angry at Matty. Matty and Servo run away.


Matty: No, Servo you can't say things to people like that.


Servo: But I wanted to make it clear I was asking him how he was doing and not just giving him a greeting.

Matty: No, Servo. When I ask you I really mean it.


Servo: But how can anyone tell?


Matty: Because we're friends. We know each other and that means when I say it I really mean it.


Servo: Are we all friends when we get to know each other, Matthew? So if I get to know someone, then I can say things and really mean them?


Matty: No, Servo. We don't all become friends. It's... complicated. You wouldn't understand. Look, all you need to know is that I'm your friend and when I say things to you I mean what I say.


Servo looks sad.


Matty: Servo, I didn't mean it that way. You'll understand one day, it's just right now we don't have a lot of time for all that. Please, Servo we have to go.


Servo: Why do anything if nobody knows who's their friend or if anyone really means what they say?


Matty: I promise you Servo, you will. I'll teach you. But we got to get out of here right now or we won't make it to see tomorrow.
