Comforting Words from my Parents

Why don't you like this? Can't you see your feelings are wrong? Don't you realize *this* is what you're supposed to feel? (Explains how I should feel). Now go think about what you did wrong.

Lol every time I said something I didn't like about it, they'd give me a scolding about my feelings.

Why don't you like this? Can't you see your feelings are wrong? Don't you realize *this* is what you're supposed to feel? (Explains how I should feel). Now go think about what you did wrong.

And that'd be the reassurance they gave. That I did something wrong.

So I learned not to share what I felt with them unless it was a matter of self-defense or an exceedingly high euphoria that I could not contain. An optimism that would be let down by their response, to bring me back to a typical sullen mood.

Or in rare moments when an immense overabundance of joy overflowed and engulfed their words, it was not until later when I calmed down of my own accord that I could reflect on their reaction, then become sullen.
