Diary in pictures

Carlsbad, CA

I am sooooo behind on posting about events during my traveling. And I don't remember who did where in the what now. So Imma do it lazy way and let pictures do the talking. You make up an interesting story to fill in the gaps.

Thursday, July 7th. Torrance, CA.
Hospital Medical Center. WiFi in lobby. All day.

Torrance Memorial Medical Center
Cool bikes and my poser bike.

Asians and Whites intermingling. Thinking bout issue of big city relationships having cheating rampant, interracial hierarchy, and how to deconstruct it. Did not come to any conclusions. Still thinking. A feeling I'm thinking through to handle.

Yellow Fever
I'm in a big city with lots of people, lots of stuff, and nice shiny things. I feel left out of it all. Was feeling like a chump whose girlfriend was cheating with bigger, better guys. Nothing I could do about it. Stood up, given excuses. Like at an orgy but getting none of the action. Lots of excitement, but demotivated and demoted.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Humming that theme the entire way thinking of the truck chase scene.

I stayed in Irvine for three days. Saw a lot of this bike path.

Hung out at a park with my internet pal Handi, a video game streamer from Twitch.tv. He was born with no hands or lower arms. Yet he plays at the highest rank at Counter-Strike GO.

Morning camp. Sam's Club. And again the next night.

Buffet with Ulix

Relaxing at a baseball park.

Sculptures of school stress. University of California Irvine.

UCI student center.

Half past midnight on Wednesday night July 13th.
Bill Barber Community Park. Irvine, CA.

There's an outlet and city wifi at each of the dozens of roofed bench areas. Thought I'd come at night to quietly unwind.
there're bands of teens and twenteens at the park. every single one is looking at his or her cell phone. Couples are looking at phones together. Pedestrians aren't looking where they're going. Even the ones skateboarding. Even the ones walking in trios. They are playing pokemon. LOL.

(I didn't know they came out with a new generation Pokemon GO. I thought kids were still trading the gameboy version and that nerdness had taken over the millenial generations. Next day at In-N-Out burgers, a family of pokemon trainers wearing matching tee shirts came through.)
Well, looks like I won't get any trouble for being here at night but I'll have some company for a while.

I played music here earlier during the day. Alternately finding sheet music on my laptop and sight reading it.

Funny signs along the road

Hodor. Game of Thrones. If I were him, I'd only say my name when talking before putting my patient under for surgery. Hodor.

Hodor
There is a place for timid Betas

But if you think about it, Betas by definition outnumber Alphas. And they invent and provide all the good things. Their inferiority is a perception. Well, at least until the Alpha comes along and takes it all.

Morning camp. Traveling day from Irvine to Oceanside, CA. 50 miles.

San Clemente coastline

Beaches and sleeping bums

A place to charge phone at beach campground

A San Clemente beach

There's a military base along the coast north of Oceanside.

I approached an armed guard at an entrance to the base. Had to turn around, couldn't bike through it I teased the teen guard holding a big black shotgun that I couldn't help but admire his rifle, his gun. He had to turn his face around because he couldn't hold back his laughter. I think when they're at attention at their post, soldiers are not supposed to let you see them break composure.

Terminator dropships over the highway. Training landings maybe.

Rest area north of Oceanside. Hungry. Glad I took a bagel from breakfast at Marriott.

Tan lines. Black Asian.

Coastline to San Diego city. July 15th. I've passed the traveler audition. I made it!

The real show comes next. Coast to coast. San Diego, CA to Jacksonville, FL.
