Firstborn Childe

I want to get to the dark tower,
the pinnacle fixing this reality together.
I want to bring a stone of its foundation back,
for our children to build a tower of light.

I want to wrestle the shadow beast.
Ask of it questions
that shackle our people to the bottom of a well,
where the sky is a farthing.

My existence is a falling leaf
that carries a drop of water from the tree of knowledge
to nourish soil that feeds new life.

We will grow branches and reach
above a stony precipice, out into space
to become distant sparks.
