How to Rule the World

How does an oligarchy maintain its control over United States, and by extension the rest of the world?

Two lies and a big stick.

For its own population, it maintains two lies. One for domestic policy: the American dream. One for foreign policy: Freedom and Democracy.

For the rest of the world, it uses military force. A big stick backed by diplomacy.

Placating the masses

People within the country have to be lied to, because a class ruling by wealth in a supposedly democratic nation cannot use its military force to control the internal population. The socio-economic oligarchy system hinges on the people's belief in a domestic lie. The American Dream.

So long as people within the country are pleased and distracted by their material possessions, their creature comforts, and their entertainment weekly's they will not revolt.

Maintaining a Lie is a lucrative business...

There is enormous money to be made in fabricating and preserving a lie. That's why professions in media, sports, and entertainment sectors can be so lucrative to earn money. They are in the business of preserving a lie. We are distracted from an international lie and deluded by our media, entertainment, and rhetoric from noticing the activity of the United States on the global scene.

To maintain the wealth that appeases the domestic masses from revolt, and continue generating wealth and products in a nation that doesn't tap its own natural resources or manufacture the goods it consumes, the United States needs to exert economic and military pressure over foreign nations.

To sell its foreign policy to voters, politicians use a flimsy lie that we are proponents of democracy and peace on the global stage. The military's real interest is to control the global market by physical force, both to out-fund the military of foreign nations and to placate the domestic population with the foreign goods and wealth levied from weaker nations.

A primary objective of the military, under the pretense of "National Defense", is controlling the world's seas i.e. the global economy's trade arteries:
"The U.S. Navy has the most ships by far of any navy worldwide. It also has the greatest diversity of missions and the largest area of responsibility. No other navy has the global reach of the U.S. Navy, which regularly operates in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans, as well as the Mediterranean, Persian Gulf and the Horn of Africa." article
"90 percent of everything still travels as it did almost 500 years ago: by ship. The shipping industry carries necessities like food and clothing all over the world, and yet it’s an industry that goes largely ignored by people outside of it." article
America has been criticized as a 'global policeman' and for interfering in the politics and government of foreign nations. So you can see why fear-mongering and the constant need for a national threat, a 'war on something' is required to excuse the large military presence that the United States maintains.

The domestic population is what the "defender of freedom' lie is geared toward and its the nation's own support is all it needs to convince. Because its own people, the oligarch cannot use military force against. It needs to win over its own people with fabrications, speeches about patriotism, freedom, and moral verisimilitude.

... but the Truth can kill you.

People outside the country however, are fair game to be controlled and suppressed by military force.
I’m sure most of you in this large and enthusiastic crowd will be asked by self-appointed guardians of America, ’If you don’t love this country, why don’t you just get out of it?”
The answer is simple, “Because I don’t want to be victimized by its foreign policy!”
Bush has himself wrapped so tightly in the flag that it’s been years since any blood has reached his brain. That explains the nonsense he propagates. His only explanation for terrorists is, “they hate our freedom.” If they really hated our freedom then why can’t they get along with Kaiser Ashcroft? The only freedom of ours most people around the world hate is our freedom to kill them, whenever we like.
- Barry Crimmins. Buffalo Peace Rally. 2003.

People outside the United States can see through the lie more clearly than American citizens, because they are on the receiving end of the foreign policies. But it doesn't matter if the rest of the world doesn't believe in this 'freedom' pretense. Foreigners, the oligarchs can sic an unmatched navy and air-force upon.
